Time

You remember people not for who they are but how they made you feel. You remember most those who have taught you. You remember best those who have taught you the hard way.

Those who taught you important lessons such as how to see the thin line between sincerity and pretense, sympathy and condescension, reverence and denigration;

That people grow up, but they don't necessarily change. That people change unnecessarily just to grow up. That the world only revolves around One, not around one person only;

That sometimes perseverance means stubbornness. That there is a difference between giving up and moving on. That you must know when to keep on going, and when to let go;

That sometimes acting dumb is a smart move. That most of the time, the best defense is silence;

That people tell others the words they think they heard you say, not the words that you actually said. That there are things not worth knowing, and things not worth keeping;

That you need to be careful when you feel sorry for someone. Because what they have is probably just what they need. And what you think they lack could be something they don't even want;

That you will thank God for bringing the people who have taught you the hard way into you life. That you will thank them for the lessons. That you will forgive them before you even realize it. But you can never forget them;

That sometimes, the only mistake one makes is being in the wrong crowd at the wrong time. That innocence can lead to self-destruction. That a little prejudice can save one from heartbreak;

That heartbreak, is indeed more often than not, self-inflicted.

"Things break all the time. Glass, and dishes, and fingernails. Cars and contracts and potato chips. You can break a record, a horse, a dollar. You can break the ice. There are coffee breaks and lunch breaks and prison breaks. Day breaks, waves break, voices break. Chains can be broken. So can silence and fever."
-Handle With Care, Jodi Picoult

Everything breaks. But some breaks, the kind that even time cannot heal, are better left broken.

Now learn this; That I am not heartbroken. That I am very blessed, very grateful, very content. That I thank you very much.
